AQT receives Living Standards Award
January 2021: We are happy to share that AQT received the Living Standards Award 2021 for „Developing Future Technologies“
The Living Standards Award is the most significant Austrian prize dedicated to standardization and innovation. First presented in 2015, it pays tribute to success stories on innovative solutions, ideas with export potential, and future-oriented technologies. Every year, the Living Standards Award shines the spotlight on national and international hidden champions. It shows how standards contribute to success in business, to advancing innovations and to turning ideas into exports.
For us at AQT, standards play a role especially when it comes to finding “a common language” with IT partners in technical terms (ISO/IEC WD 4879 Information technology – Quantum computing). AQT specialises in developing ion trap quantum computers and is the first start-up in Europe to bring a quantum computer to the cloud. Building on more than 20 years of research at the University of Innsbruck and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, AQT was able to realise a quantum computer based on industry standards.
The benefit: Our computer does not require laboratory conditions, it fits in a closet and has the power consumption of a kettle. Thanks to high computing power, the technology can support the development of new drugs or materials with planned properties.
About Austrian Standards
Austrian Standards is the Austrian organisation for standardization and innovation. Its committed team forms part of a large network comprising 4,200 Austrian experts in a dialogue with European and international experts (e.g. CEN, ETSI, ISO). Austrian Standards make it possible for everyone to take part in shaping standards and facilitate access to, and the application of, internationally recognized expertise. This supports the interests of business, consumers, administration, science and research as well as society at large.
What started as the “Österreichischer Normenausschuss für Industrie und Gewerbe” (Austrian Standardization Committee for Industry and Commerce) is an important international hub for innovative know-how today.
